Western Slope Big Game Hunting Guides- Colorado DNRHunting- These booklets provide a general overview of hunting information for western Colorado. Included are statistics, directories and some great hunting tips for sports men and women headed into the field in the Northwest and Southwest regions. The Big Game Hunting Guides allow hunters to find out how many preference points it took to draw an elk, deer, or pronghorn for a 2005 license or look at the 2004 harvest by unit and season. Estimates of deer and elk herds are included by game management unit (GMU). Hunters will also find useful information on terrain and weather for the units. Hunters should review the sections related to Giardia, hypothermia, and high altitude sickness. The guides will help sportsmen stay healthy and have a successful hunt in the high country. The guides include important phone numbers and Web sites for state and federal offices, guides and outfitters, and road and weather conditions. Hunters away from home will also find important information about the Buckskin Network, a cooperative effort between the Colorado Division of Wildlife, law enforcement agencies, and Colorado media to deliver emergency messages to hunters in the field. A limited number of Big Game Hunting Guides are printed annually. To meet the growing demand, the DOW is making them available on the Internet. Hunters can view and print the entire guide, or just the pages of interest.
