Shimano’s Calcutta TE 50GT, Stella 5000FA Receive ‘Editor’s Choice’ Honors

Press Release

For its annual Tackle Test Guide, Outdoor Life editors took 50 of the newest reels and rods introduced for 2003, headed to Lucky Star Ranch in Chaumont, N.Y. for a few days on its bass- and pike-filled lake, and evaluated everything about them. The criteria used by the editors for reels focused on operating smoothness, cast control accessibility and adjustments, workmanship and drag systems.

Along with its ‘Editor’s Choice’ honor, the Calcutta TE 50GT was also tabbed with an Outdoor Life ‘Best Buy’ recognition. The reason according to the article – “It’s a reel you can pass on to you grandkids.”

The Calcutta TE 50GT, and the left-hand retrieve 51GT, are the newest additions to Shimano’s Calcutta TE reel line-up. The Stella 5000FA is one of eight new reels in this series, all designed around Shimano’s new S-Concept

Scent Shield Power Pro 2

Other

I've been hunting in heavy brush for the last few years and by the time you see them their up close and personal. Without a good mast or coverup you'll miss half of them that come close. I think the price was about $20.00.

I used to use the red fox urine but for some reason the last few years it seems as they raise their level of awareness even though they don't run off they do seem to be on edge. I'm looking to take me out of the equation all together and this stuff is doing it.

There is no magic cure you have to use this stuff on anything that might give you away. Since hunting is my life I won't even step into the garage with my hunting gear. I keep it all separate away from any oils or chemicals in the house. I wish this stuff was good enough to allow me to wear anything, but science hasn't reached that point yet.

This stuff works, in fact I recently saw on their website that they won the Readers Choice award from Bow Hunting Magazine.

It works, it doesn't smell like anything or make them want to love you, it just takes your odor out of the woods. Without movement I have yet to spook either a buck or a doe. Definitely worth the price of admission. I've already bought the large bottle to take to camp to spray everyone down, no sense other hunters making them weary.

Berkley

Hook Sharpener

Fishing Misc Equip

I need a new back pack before archery sets in so here goes nothing. The only new piece of equipment I've bought lately is a hook sharpener. My old one dissappeared during my divorce which is a lot of the reason I haven't bought anything lately. It was all worth it, but that's another story.

With the exception of a little cleo or two I throw Rooster Tails almost exclusively. After a few trips out from being in the water they lose some of their bite and that's where the little Berkely comes in. It does a good job of brining the hook back to life, nothing will make it new again, but at least it brings the point back to average.

The sharpener is fragile and sometimes you acutally wonder if the hook is getting the best of the sharpener. It's also a little difficult getting down on a three prong hook.

I guess you have to ask yourself how well they can make such an item. What I mean to say is you cant walk up with a bench grinder. I just always fret about small plastic objects.

It does a decent job, if I had more money I would probably buy a top of the line model, but that seems to be gone anymore. My advice to the youngsters out there is don't get married. She can't take my fishing away from me.

Camo Vision Glasses

The Original Camo Glasses

Fishing Rods

I just got these this past weekend. I couldn't believe when I was surfing the net and came across your site and these glasses. These are the best kept secret in hunting. Paid just over $50 including shipping. This has been a problem for me for years. My turkey stand is awesome, but facing right into the sun an hour after sunrise. I have some pretty nice shades, but wouldn't dare risk wearing them when camo'd up from head to toe. This is the answer I've been looking for.

Hey, their all camo'd up. Are they the best lenses, no, but they are good and will certainly help my eye strain especially after a couple of hours of staring for long beards.

I haven't had them out yet, but wearing them around the house I liked them, that is until my wife said I looked like a goof.

Well made for the occasional wear during hunting. I plan on keeping them in my shooting glasses case so they don't disapper like some of my other glasses have in the past.

Their one of those things, you say why didn't I think of that, I could have been a millionaire. I was blown away when I saw them on the front of my newest daily visit site. I guess now the secret is out. I really hope they come out with a set of white camo's in the near future. Now that would take the cake.

Redhead Rain Suits

Camo Rain Suit

Rain Gear

I got it at Warehouse Hut for $30.00

This is something you hope you never have to use. It seems everytime time is on my side for a trip to fish or even the woods here comes the rain. I've worn these three times and am happy with them. I thought about buying a more expensive pair, but how often do I use them came to my mind and for that matter often when it's raining they won't bite or move.

Rain gear always comes folded so neat and tidy, but once you get them out of their cover you'll never see them folded like that again. These would make a nice pillow for somebody.

A little nosier than I'd like, but made well and probably won't tear easily.

Nice little buy to have on hand for a few bucks. Better than a poncho you can't move in, but not as nice as some of the suits I see at the club. All in all it's what you put the money into.
