FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION CLOSES FILE ON

Press Release

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) announced today that the Federal Trade Commission ("FTC") issued a letter on August 22, 2003 closing its investigation of a number of members of the firearms industry without action. This investigation commenced in August, 2000. Its stated purpose was to investigate whether any members of the firearms industry had violated Section 5 of the FTC Act by illegally conspiring to boycott Smith & Wesson after that company concluded an agreement with the Clinton Administration in March, 2000.

In that agreement, since abrogated by the present administration, Smith & Wesson agreed to undertake controversial gun-control type measures demanded by prior HUD officials and certain city mayors and state attorneys general as a condition for their dismissal of Smith & Wesson from then-pending and threatened litigation. Smith & Wesson officials later called the agreement impractical and unenforceable, and it was withdrawn by mutual consent of the parties.

The Smith & Wesson agreement itself created considerable concern among firearms owners, some of whom unilaterally decided not to purchase Smith & Wesson products unless Smith & Wesson repudiated this agreement. Certain public officials apparently misapprehended this grass-roots gun owner reaction as an industry-sponsored boycott of Smith & Wesson by its competitors for anti-competitive purposes, and initiated this investigation by the FTC and certain state attorneys general.

"Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has always conducted its business affairs in a lawful manner and has completely cooperated with the FTC in its investigation concerning the Smith & Wesson agreement and its aftermath" said Sturm, Ruger & Co. President Stephen L. Sanetti. "We have the highest professional regard for our competitor Smith & Wesson. We are glad that, after a lengthy and comprehensive investigation, this matter is finally closed."

Land More Saltwater Giants with New Lures and Accessories from Rapala

Press Release

Nothing compares with the thrill of catching a big fish, and landing those saltwater giants would not be the same without the Rapala lure’s signature “wounded-baitfish wobble” and tough accessories that so many saltwater anglers have come to depend on. This year, Rapala introduces more precision technology and lure designs to enhance the saltwater experience for anglers in search of a trophy fish.

ProGuide™ Lock ‘n Weigh Now lifting, weighing and releasing big species of fish is a one-handed operation. Once the fish is boatside, the ProGuide® Lock ‘n Weigh slides over the lower jaw of the fish and is secured by lifting. The patent-pending cam-lock system uses the fish’s weight to lock it into place; then the fish can be lifted into the boat. A built-in scale displays the weight, and the triggers need only a squeeze to release the fish back into the water. The Lock ‘n Weigh is composed of high grade stainless steel that can withstand the rigors of the saltwater environment. Sure-grip material surrounds the handle, assuring no-slip operation and a wrist lanyard adjusts to keep the Lock ‘n Weigh completely secure. The Lock ‘n Weigh makes handling large fish with sharp teeth a safe and enjoyable experience. Both 20-pound and 60-pound scales are available.

LC® Long Casting Minnow The LC® Long Casting Minnow is the only “long-casting” wooden lure available. Using the technology developed for the freshwater LC Minnow, Rapala has applied the patent-pending weight transfer system to the new saltwater offering.

Internal weights shift to the back of the LC® when casting to propel the lure, breaking traditional casting limitations. When the lure hits the water, a small custom-designed lip keeps the LC® topwater with a maximum dive of one to four feet. The weights then shift forward to ensure perfect balance in the water and on retrieve. A locking pin holds the weights in the proper position in the water, giving the bait lively “wounded-minnow” action and allowing for easy retrieval.

The LC® Long Casting Minnow is crafted from abashi wood, which is tough enough to endure even the most powerful attacks, then finished with seven coats of paint and lacquer for that superior Rapala look. The minnow body shape is ideal for many saltwater fishing techniques and is available in seven sensational colors to catch the eye of a variety of species.

New colors for Skitter Walk® The tried and true Skitter Walk® makes it easy to “walk-the-dog” and lure saltwater giants. Now available in two striking new colors, Hot Chartreuse and Hot Pink, these lures are sure to get positive attention.

New Saltwater In-Shore Series Fishing Rods New Tournament Class Series specialty rods have been designed especially for saltwater fishing. Like all Rapala® Premium Rods, the Saltwater In-Shore Series are created by hand and are made of the most advanced, lightweight graphite for extreme sensitivity. Handles crafted of top grade cork offer a secure grip as well as greater comfort and longevity. The Rapala Maximum Guide System improves rod balance and optimizes load distribution to increase overall performance.

About Rapala Dedicated to delivering memorable fishing experiences every time, the Rapala Group, based in Vääksy, Finland (Helsinki Stock Exchange: RAP1V), manufactures and markets fishing lures, fishing line, fishing rods, hooks, terminal tackle knives and accessories under the Rapala, VMC, Blue Fox and Storm brand names. Orvis’ BUZZ OFF Insect Shield™ Insect Repellent Apparel

Press Release

MANCHESTER, Vermont – Orvis announced today the launch of BUZZ OFF Insect Shield™ Insect Repellent Apparel, a new line of insect-repellent clothing, available at select Orvis retail stores nationwide and at www.orvis.com beginning in Fall 2003.

A full rollout in all stores, dealers, catalogs, and the web is slated for Spring 2004. Company officials expect BUZZ OFF will become the biggest revolution in outdoor technical apparel since the introduction of Gore-Tex® in 1978.

BUZZ OFF apparel from Orvis is a high performance and potent innovation in bug repellency. It provides the benefits of a bug spray without the constant reapplication, so the number of insect bites is dramatically reduced without ever having to coat (and recoat) with a spray or cream. That’s because BUZZ OFF is in the clothing, not on the skin, so it keeps working as long as the garment is being worn.

The new Orvis product provides effective protection against mosquitos, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges or no-see-ums, thanks to its active ingredient, permethrin, a man-made form of an all-natural insect repellent derived from the chrysanthemum plant. It’s EPA-registered, odorless, effortless, and effective through 25 washings.

“We compare the launch of BUZZ OFF to the revolutionary impact Gore-Tex had when it was first introduced,” says Orvis BUZZ OFF Brand Manager, Ryan Shadrin. “It’s that kind of a seismic change in the way we think of performance clothing.”

“Imagine wearing great-looking, casual apparel that also happens to work as well as an insect repellent in preventing mosquito and tick bites. With no odor, no effort, and no hassle. That’s no small benefit, especially considering the increase in West Nile virus and Lyme disease across the country,” Shadrin said.

Extensive testing conducted both by the manufacturers of BUZZ OFF and Orvis has proven that Orvis BUZZ OFF apparel works. “We’ve been testing BUZZ OFF clothes in some of the harshest, buggiest areas in the country,” says Shadrin. “From mosquito-ridden bayous of Louisiana to black-fly-infested forests of Maine, BUZZ OFF performance has been impressive: not only does it work as well as bug spray, but just as importantly, it keeps working even when the garment gets wet, so you can enjoy the outdoors without ever having to reapply repellent,” he said.

BUZZ OFF will also be carried by Ex Officio, a Seattle-based company owned by The Orvis Company, Inc. Ex Officio has led the way in outdoor performance clothing for the last 16 years. Their garments are distributed in specialty outdoor, fly fishing, travel, and luggage stores throughout the U.S. and the world.

BUZZ OFF is a patent-pending innovation from Buzz Off Insect Shield LLC, based in Greensboro, NC. The idea for developing insect repellent clothing was originally driven by the U.S. armed forces’ need to protect field troops in a way that was safe and long lasting. After seven years of joint research and testing with the military, the company found BUZZ OFF to be highly effective in repelling mosquitoes and ticks. It is similarly effective in repelling ants, flies, chiggers and no-see-ums. In July 2003, Buzz Off Insect Shield introduced the first insect repellent apparel ever registered by the EPA.

More details about BUZZ OFF are available at www.orvis.com. Specific product information, as well as additional background regarding BUZZ OFF performance will be released in Fall 2003.

Orvis, the oldest continuously operated catalog company in the country, has been the premier outfitter of the distinctive country lifestyle and sporting traditions since 1856. The company’s international headquarters for its mail order, retail and wholesale businesses are in Manchester, Vermont.

Whitetail Deer Archery Target

Archery Equipment

I bought this at walmart just two days ago. $50.00 plus taxs.

I don't.

Where do we start, first off it looks like the damn thing has been on the Atkins diet, hell my dog is bigger than this thing. The foam or what's left of it is just plain cheap and isn't holding up to my blunts at all. I can just imagine what will happen when I start practicing with my old Wasps. The grounding pins aren't big enough and the dog ends up falling over after a couple of shots. They should give you a few bags of mud to really plant the mother.

Cheaper than the ex-wife and at least when she fell over it was a good thing. Come to think of it, she had holes all over her just like the dog.

What country this came from should have kept this thing to eat. If I could find the slip I'd be taking this thing back tonight if it survives the gang coming over.

48" Aluminum Gun Case

I bought it at Sportmans Paradise for $130 and some odd change. My kid left my last one out in the rain for a couple of hours last year and I couldn't get the musty odor out so there's no way I would risk my good elk piece going in there.

It's a gun case is about all you can say. I'm sure it will do it's job and short of not opening there isn't much that can go wrong.

Read the above.

It appears well built and provided it's not left out the rain I'm sure it'll last for some time. It's not the prettiest one out there, but I guess all that would do is attract sleeze bags to my rifles.

It's a nice little affordable gun case that probably will only leave my property a few times a year.

I blew close to 99 bucks on it. There wasn't much of a decision since my viken ex-step daughter's boyfriend helped himself to my ot'6 BDL and of course the attached Leoupold 3x9. Now I'm using an Old Mossburg with a poly choke and two shot clip.

Not a lot, it's dim compared to my old scope and doesn't offer the field of view. The ad says allows more light in and I am thinking allows more light in than what a bucket. It was cheap which is about the only good thing to say about the scope other than it was made cheap by whatever country made it over ther.

It's dark and I can't seem to hit the same place twice in one day. I'd reckon the bullet makers made this scope just to make money off the dumb clucks who buy it and try to site it in.

Put a lead pipe on your gun barrel and it might feel better. Better yet through it at the dam turkey or dear and you might have a better chance.

Yeah I might have bought a bad one who knows. I won't risk it again and once I get my settlement I'll be throwing this cluck out the window of my truck.

My Step-Dad bought this for my confirmation for me. I had an old Bear Whitetail bow that was old. Both of his bows are PSE and it's what I wanted. I wanted him to give me his old one. I couldn't pull it back because it's 70lbs.

My Step-Dad says I will be able to use it two to three years since the draw is adjustable and so is the weight. It's really light and not very big either.

I wish the weight went a lot higher so when I get stronger I could make the weight go higher.

It's really well made. The handle fits into my hand really good. It's light so I won't have a problem carrying it. My friends Dad said I'll never have a problem with it. It makes my arms sore sometimes.

It's a really nice bow. I should be able to shoot a lot of big bucks with it. I can hit in a pie plate almost every time I shoot it. Really good bow. Definitely the nicest anyone has at school.
