Muskie Lures McCrea Bait Company

Release

The Glidin’ Wheedle which is the 9” model offers a large silhouette that mimics the action of a darting or crippled baitfish. The bait will run down 1 to 3 feet. The Wheedle Jr. is the 6” model and has the same action as the 9” model. These shallow running baits are an excellent choice to work over drop offs, shallow structures, and weeds.

The Wheedle is designed not only to catch fish, but also minimize fatigue on the angler. Let’s face it, it can get awfully tiring casting and retrieving musky size baits all day or even for a couple hours. The Wheedle glides through the water with ease so you can fish longer.

Speaking of the name “Wheedle”. You are probably asking yourself how I came up with name Wheedle. Well to be honest I didn’t. My wife Andrea did. I had the prototyping and field testing of the Wheedle complete. It’s catching fish, it looks great, the action is there, but I was still at a loss for the name. I went through so many I lost track. Anyway, one name was the musky Coaxer. It just didn’t fit. After doing some research my wife Andrea looked for some alternate definitions to the word coax. In the Webster’s dictionary the definition of Wheedle is as follows:whee dle (hwe’d’l) - to get something by coaxing or flattery. To fool or flatter.

That’s it! That is exactly what we are trying to accomplish. We are all trying to coax or fool the king of freshwater to strike our baits and lures. The name was catchy and fit perfectly and that’s how the Wheedle got its name

About the McCrea Bait Company:

I have always been an avid fisherman. Fishing for everything from Tarpon to Perch, but no other fish that I have caught has given my “the shakes” as the musky has. This fish has the ability to send people on emotional roller coasters. When a musky strikes and you are in my boat, you’d know it. I have always wanted to make my own musky baits but never gave it any thought until a short time ago. With the support and encouragement from my family and friends I started making wood bodies in different shapes and sizes in my garage.

Soon after that I built a workshop to accommodate all the materials involved in making baits. Making baits also passes the time on and off the water and fishing seasons. What I had envisioned is a bait that would be easy to use, have great action, a superior finish, and of course catch muskies. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is #1 in my book. That is why I produce these baits one at a time. I want you to feel confident that the Wheedle is going to perform and catch fish. That’s the thought I have with each bait that I produce.

After crossing the monumental boundaries of trial and error, I created the Glidin’ Wheedle. Soon after that came the smaller version the Wheedle Jr. After achieving those goals I am now pleased to release these baits to the musky fishing world.

Soon the Wheedle may be the "go to" bait in your tackle box. There will be more baits to follow that are currently in the prototype stages. The next goal is to catch the illusive 50+incher on a Wheedle. When it happens, you’ll know about it.
