Cortland Line Company- 555 SERIES expanded to include 555 Floating Green Ghost Tip and 555 Tropic Plus Flats Line

Press Release

For nearly a hundred years Cortland Line Company has broken new ground in sportfishing line development. In 1953 we introduced the 333 Fly Line, the first low maintenance floating line and the first bonded synthetic surface coating ever used in line manufacturing. Through the second half of the century Cortland’s award winning 444 and 444SL pushed the boundaries of fly line technology even further with the 444 being chosen as the "fly line of the Century". How do you expand on this level of success? By continuing to reach for better technology and innovation.

At the 2001 Fly Tackle Retailer show Cortland introduced the first three lines in the 555 Series; the 555 Floating Line, the 555 Clear Floating Line, and the 555 Little Tunny. The 555 Series utilizes a fly line core that is simply in a class of its own, both in technology and performance. The response was overwhelming.

Now, Cortland continues its commitment to innovation by announcing two new additions to the 555 Series; the 555 Floating Green Ghost Tip and the 555 Tropic Plus Flats Line. In a word, the Green Ghost Tip is the ANSWER to what serious fly fishers have been asking for since Cortland first introduced synthetic fly lines. The 555 Floating Green Ghost Tip combines the visibility of a mica-green colored line with a crystal clear floating tip section. The perfect line for clear water conditions while on or near the surface. This 555 is super high floating, lighting fast and is designed to last a light-year. WF3-6F, mica green. Suggested Retail $59.

The 555 Tropic Plus Flats Line is engineered for ultra clear, shallow, saltwater conditions that require a fly line that picks up instantly and effortlessly. This 555 high floater is designed for longer casts and is coated so that it performs perfectly in tropical conditions. When you just have one line for flats fishing, make it the Tropic Plus Flats Line! WF6-10F, aqua green. Suggested Retail $62.

The 555 SERIES does not rely on a single coating, body material, core or taper. Each line is engineered to address the fly fisher’s specific needs. We structure the vital fly line design elements to meet specific demands, making each 555 SERIES Fly Line unique.

Application- each line is engineered to be application specific combining aerodynamic tapers, extended running lines where needed, special cores, unique coatings and high-tech body materials to match each fly line to the task.

Core- we make each mono core to match the desired action and the application of each line.

Body- Cortland Line’s "Barrier Technology" gives you a line that needs no dressing, requires minimal cleaning, repels dirt and is hydrophobic shedding water easily Coating- multiple slickening agents and bonded coatings are actually mixed into the line body coming to the surface with use and creating a virtually friction-free cast.

Durability- long-chain polymer additives provide extreme durability and unparalleled crack resistance– far and away more durable than any of the fly lines we’ve tested!

Taper- each taper is specific to the line application and includes a special beefed up 555 anti-collapse rear compound taper designed help the caster arielize more line.

Innovation- new additions to the 555 SERIES are being created and tested continually, and will be appearing several times a year, giving the new adventurous generation of fly fishers the right tools for the challenge that is fly fishing in the 21st century.

The 555 SERIES can be found in Cortland Pro Shops around the world
