The Handi-Measure by Angling Designs

HFG Editor -Jim Shiperly

Hunting & Fishing Gear Review - The Handi-Measure is one of those items that come out on the market and you ask yourself, why didn’t I think of that. The device is a tape measure that straps to the handle of your fishing net for immediate use when needed. The retractable soft tape safely measures fish up to 36 inches/90 centimeters. The patent pending adjustable strap design allows it to fit all fishing nets. Last, but not least the tape measure swivels for off net use and of course the entire unit is fresh-waterproof.

The Handi-Measure enables the catch-and-release angler to measure fish without removing them from the water. Fish are measured by cradling them underneath the net while still partially submerged. This greatly reduces the stress and handling of catch-and-release fish. Since the Handi-Measure is conveniently stowed on the net handle measuring of the fish can be done quickly by the solo angler without the need for assistance.

If you’re like me you like to pack as much into your fishing vest as possible. The problem is no matter how organized I try to be, I still end up searching several pockets, or having to remove items from my tackle box before I find what I’m looking for. The Handi-Measure not only reduces the amount of items in your vest, or tackle box, but is also light weight and actually takes away from the load you carry while fishing. The biggest benefit I see is the ability to eliminate the stress and handling of the fish. This is especially important in many over fished areas.

Unfortunately since its February I haven’t had the chance to test the device in action. After examining the Handi-Measure I can tell you it appears very well made and it’s obvious a lot of thought went into the design of the device. As promised it quickly and securely attached to the fishing net I chose to mount it on.

The Handi-Measure is produced by Angling Designs a Colorado company dedicated to manufacturing innovative fly fishing products. It is available in sporting goods stores, catalogs and fly shops for a suggested retail price of $13.95 and comes with an instruction sheet and an unconditional money back guarantee. The Handi-Measure is also available via the company’s website: www.anglingdesigns.com or via phone at 1-800-896-8998.
