Fishing Gear - New Product Release-World's Best Spincast Reel Gets Little BrotherThe words "professional" and "spincast" have never worked well together in describing the easiest of all kinds of fishing reels to use . . . until Omega . The Omega Professional spincast reel, with its six stainless steel ball bearings and all-aluminum body, covers and reel foot, took the push-button reel market by storm last year. In fact, the high demand for this quality $50 spincast reel even caught Zebco by surprise, making these reels hard to find for much of the season, as stores couldn't keep them in stock. But Zebco officials say they've increased production for 2004, plus they've added a new, smaller-sized Omega too. New to the family is the Omega 2, about a one-third size smaller reel than the original Omega 3. But its reduced size and 6 Ib. line are the only things different about it because everything else is all Omega. Omega's ultra-smooth worm gear drive, with its 3.4:1 gear ratio, has been designed to provide a balance between both power and speed. The six ball bearings and a clutch bearing afford unmatched performance and durability in a spincast reel. A triple-cam multi-disc drag makes it capable of handling some serious fishing. An oscillating spool lays down line nice and even, and a 3X Positive Line Pickup system instantly captures the line during retrieve. A patented quick-change spool system allows easy switching to change line weights, and a spare spool comes with every Omega. The front cover is threaded and screws on, meaning it stays put during casts and retrieves. Its ceramic line guide allows smooth flow of line in and out. A sealed, soft-touch rubber thumb button provides user comfort. The dual, soft-knob handle is interchangeable for right or left hand cranking. Both the Omega 2 and the Omega 3 retail for $49.95 each. And both are available in combos, perfectly matched to graphite rods with cork handles. The combos sell for about $69.99.
