Fly Fishing - Black Duck Fly Fishing Products- A Great Old FormulaFly Fishing - When the gentleman that manufactured Pharmacist Formula head cement stopped about 10 years ago, many fly tiers thought they had lost the best head cement on the market - forever. In mid-2001, Richard Parks, who owns the Parks Fly Shop in Gardiner, Montana, called and asked if we could re-introduced a similar formula to replace the old Pharmacist Formula fly fishing head cement. We said that we might be able to if we had a sample to examine (those who have read the Black Duck Story know that we are a husband and wife team of a toxicologist and chemical engineer). Richard then reluctantly sent us the last few drops he had, with the hope that we would be able to come close to replicating it. We examined the sample and developed 2 fly fishing head cement formulas we thought might be close. We then sent these to Richard to test over the course of a winter. During that same time we also tested the fly fishing head cement formulas, tying numerous flies, and watching to see if the products would thicken appreciably. We wrapped up our testing satisfied that we had a winner, and sat back to wait to hear from Richard. Four months after we sent him the fly fishing head cement samples, he called us and recommend we begin bottling the formula that he selected, as it was the successor to Pharmacist Formula. We call our version Traditional head cement, and like its predecessor, you will find it to be a quick penetrating, thin, non-stringing, all around head cement.
