Fishing Lures - Yum Bait - Zell Rowland's Zellamander
Fishing Lures - Zell Rowland loves topwaters, but soft plastic lures play a very close second to his heart. Rowland, who won the Bassmaster Tour event at Santee Cooper lakes in 2003, wanted to find a way to marry two of his favorite Yum Soft Plastic baits: a Yum Lizard and Yum Wooly Hawgtail.
A little ingenuity and soft plastic surgery later and he had his new creature: the Zellamander.
The Yum Zellamander, available in 5" and 7", combines the body of a lizard with “hawg” style tails.
“I created it because when a fish bites any kind of fishing lure, I don’t care if it is a Rebel Pop-R or Excalibur Fat Free Shad, they bite it for only one of four reasons:
sight, sound, smell and vibration,” Rowland said. “Vibration is the most important word of all of them. This is something that at angler should be thinking of any time he is fishing between 6 and 12' of water. You need to use something that will create a disturbance.”
Rowland developed the Zellamander for just such situations. He said the legs of the Zellamander create more vibration than any other soft plastic lizard in history.
“The Zellamander is better than anything else because there has never been one and because it creates more vibrations than any other lizard made,” Rowland said. “Any guy who is throwing a Carolina Rig in 10 to 20' of water, well, his prayers have just been answered.”
