(NYSE: RGR) announced today that the Federal Trade Commission ("FTC") issued a letter on August 22, 2003 closing its investigation of a number of members of the firearms industry without action. This investigation commenced in August, 2000. Its stated purpose was to investigate whether any members of the firearms industry had violated Section 5 of the FTC Act by illegally conspiring to boycott Smith & Wesson after that company concluded an agreement with the Clinton Administration in March, 2000. In that agreement, since abrogated by the present administration, Smith & Wesson agreed to undertake controversial gun-control type measures demanded by prior HUD officials and certain city mayors and state attorneys general as a condition for their dismissal of Smith & Wesson from then-pending and threatened litigation. Smith & Wesson officials later called the agreement impractical and unenforceable, and it was withdrawn by mutual consent of the parties. The Smith & Wesson agreement itself created considerable concern among firearms owners, some of whom unilaterally decided not to purchase Smith & Wesson products unless Smith & Wesson repudiated this agreement. Certain public officials apparently misapprehended this grass-roots gun owner reaction as an industry-sponsored boycott of Smith & Wesson by its competitors for anti-competitive purposes, and initiated this investigation by the FTC and certain state attorneys general. "Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has always conducted its business affairs in a lawful manner and has completely cooperated with the FTC in its investigation concerning the Smith & Wesson agreement and its aftermath" said Sturm, Ruger & Co. President Stephen L. Sanetti. "We have the highest professional regard for our competitor Smith & Wesson. We are glad that, after a lengthy and comprehensive investigation, this matter is finally closed." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sturm, Ruger is the nation’s leading manufacturer of high-quality firearms for recreation and law enforcement, and a major producer of precision steel and titanium investment castings components for consumer industries. When I saw this thing I couldn't believe I had never thought of it. $24.94 and it's one of the best buys I've made in the past few years. I haven't had a lot of time to hunt starting a family and all and everytime I do get the chance it seems like I'm cursed to rain or sleet. I stand hunt from before daylight until evening I try not to move once, with the exception of those things you have to do. The bad thing about this is once you get wet for the day it's gonna be a long cold day until you dry off. This little thing does a great job of controling much of the rain that follows me around. It' not the cure all as we all know a good rain often comes sideways and there's not much you can do about that. I also wish it could be a little more quiet when getting hit with a heavy rain. Maybe that's being picky. Very well built for an oversize umbrella. I definitely tuck it away though when going through heavy brush and forest. Pretty great device. If I haven't mentioned it also doubles as a small frontal blind for hunting turkey, or for that matter any other concealment. They might want to consider offering other options on the style of camo, mine is Woodland and may not match your climate. 4 Dark Cloud 3-D Whitetail Deer Archery Target Archery Equipment I bought this at walmart just two days ago. $50.00 plus taxs. I don't. Where do we start, first off it looks like the damn thing has been on the Atkins diet, hell my dog is bigger than this thing. The foam or what's left of it is just plain cheap and isn't holding up to my blunts at all. I can just imagine what will happen when I start practicing with my old Wasps. The grounding pins aren't big enough and the dog ends up falling over after a couple of shots. They should give you a few bags of mud to really plant the mother. Cheaper than the ex-wife and at least when she fell over it was a good thing. Come to think of it, she had holes all over her just like the dog. What country this came from should have kept this thing to eat. If I could find the slip I'd be taking this thing back tonight if it survives the gang coming over. 1 Save Your Money Hunter's View Hawk Climbing Tree Stand Tree Stands It came yesterday from Wal-Mart.com. I don't recall exactly what it cost since I bought a new safety harness and a few lures, Somewhere close to $99.00. I had a real old loggy without a seat on it. I purchased a strap on seat, but I'm tall and it didn't give me the best support especially when bundled up for one of the colder days of the year. For this one the seat is part of the unit and pretty comfortable compared to others I've tried. The straps are generous in size as well compared to my old loggy whose straps were nothing more than carrying handles. It's not completly camo'd. The base is a gray that will probably blend in well enough, but I would rather not take any chances. It's to late to paint it and not have to worry about scent so I will probably buy a couple of rolls of camo tape and then spray it down with scent shield real well in addition to leaving it under the shed. For $100 I didn't expect miracles, but it's pretty solid. I go a little over the weight limit of 300 with a full pack of gear, gun and knapsack so I'm alway think about that in the back of my mind. I also wish it were a little quieter when climbing, but I'm sure after a little use it will work out. For $100 some dollars I think I did well. I don't have to worry a lot about losing it like I would with a high end stand and it is very comfortable, especially with the padded armrest in the warmer months. I'll give it a three out of five. 3 Bill Hemlen Sr. Boise, ID McKenzie Targets Vital Zone Deer Target Archery Equipment I bought it direct from McKenzie on line. I'm not sure if they sell these at stores yet, or not. I paid $125.00 in late June. The best thing about this is the vital organs are all exposed. This is my Son's first year of hunting and I wanted him to get a really good idea engrained in his mind where to shoot a deer. I work in a butcher shop at night and am tired of skinning deer that have scar tissue or sometimes even broadheads left in them. Don't get me wrong sometimes things go wrong, but some of these shots were just absolute misses of the vital zone. My Son's and his buddies are starting to do a number on the poor thing. I should point out they've shot hundreds if not thousands of round in it. I also caught one of them using blunts which do a number on a target such as this as well. Most of our bucks in this area of the country are a little bigger and if they made it bigger maybe all the impacts wouldn't add up as quickly. I'm not dissatisfied as if it split in half righ now I still got my money's worth. I am happy I ran across this on line not only for my son, but his buddies that shoot on our range as well. More archery targets should emphasize the kill zone and we'd have a lot less wasted animals out there. 3 Keith T. |
