Hunting Boots - Part III

Hunting

In parts I and II of our Hunting Boots we listed some of the better reviews of hunting boots we’ve received over the last year. In this Part III we will tell you about some of the newest boots out on the market, along with examining some of the technologies that make these hunting boots what they are.

Redhead 10” Guide Hunting Boots

These boots are not only scent proof, but also 100% waterproof as well. They feature a 1,000 denier Nylon upper with leather reinforcements in high stress areas. Another nice feature of this boot is the flex notches in the heal which provide greater flexibility while improving the overall comfort of the hunting boots. I also like the tread on these hunting boots, its very aggressive however not the type of sole that will carry the forest floor with you. Last, but not least the boots have 600 grams of thinsulate which is a fair amount for most any type of leather you wear them in. As of September 18th they are for sale at Bass Pro for $139.95.

Wolverine Field Trekker Hunting Boots

I just received a set of these fine hunting boots from Wolverine to do an Editor’s review of them. To date I’ve only worn them once, however like them already. These hunting boots come out of the box fitting like a glove. The boot features a Wolverine rubber sole that looks to be a cross between the sole of hunting boots and running shoes. Regardless the boot is very comfortable and Wolverine says these hunting boots will perform extremely well in muddy and wet terrain. They are available in Mossy Oak’s new Break up pattern at Bass Pro for $199.95.

Browning Highland Hunting Boots

Here’s a set of hunting boots that somehow slipped under the radar. I honestly didn’t know a lot about these boots until I ran across an ad for them. First off they carry the Browning name which is a sign of quality. They feature Scent-Lok Permanent Scent Control which doesn’t require regeneration and is designed to be active for the life of the hunting boots which is a great plus. They are also guaranteed by Gore-Tex and if you are ever dissatisfied with the Gore-Tex within the boot Gore will refund, repair or replace the hunting boots free of charge. Featuring 800 grams of thinsulate these boots are hand-sewn with Browning Archery bow string for durability. These hunting boots also feature an aggressive Vibram Opanka sole. Available in Brown and Mossy Oak’s New Break-Up Currently $169.95 at Bass Pro.

Danner Grand Slam GTX 400 Hunting Boots

These boots appear to be made for early season archery hunting, in particular they look like the kind of hunting boots you’d wear for climbing or maybe even stalking. They feature a Gore-Tex liner and a full grain leather upper combined with 400 grams of Thinsulate. They are on Danner’s TFX platform built with Terra Force, Here’s what Danner’s website has to say about this technology. TERRA FORCE ™ technology from Danner has changed all that by providing exceptional support and stability with amazingly light weight. The four components in the exclusive TERRA FORCE ™ system combine to form an extremely rigid, stable platform that’s also comfortable and supportive. It’s the perfect balance of boot strength and sneaker weight. $169.95 at Bass Pro.

Irish Setter Raptor Hunting Boots

These hunting boots have a couple of unique features. The first is an external cradle design that gives you sure footed feeling. The second is mid foot lace locks that keeps your laces tight even after a hard day of hunting. They also have an odor inhibitor to keep your scent down to a minimum. The 1,200 grams of thinsulate should be more than enough to keep your feet warm even after hours on stand. Last, but not least they feature a Gore-Tex lining to keep your feet dry. $179-95 at Bass Pro

Rocky Bearclaw Arctic Hunting Boots

With a full 1,400 grams of thinsulate you’re going to be challenged to make your feet cold even for guys like me who have a problem with cold feet. Thankfully they come with a Gore-Tex liner to let your feet breath in these hunting boots. They also have a 3-D welt construction for dependable traction even in tough terrain. $169.95 from Bass Pro

Rocky Revolver Boots

If you hate lacing your boots up each time you leave camp then these are the hunting boots for you. They feature a lacing system that tightens or loosens the laces with the turn of a dial. The lacing system isn’t the only plus for these hunting boots. They also have a football cleat inspired Vibram Prohunter Outer sole. The 600 grams of thinsulate and Gore-Tex fabric will go a long way in keeping you comfortable in these hunting boots. $149.95 at Bass Pro

All of the boots we’ve mentioned above are available at Bass Pro and other fine retailers. Please take a moment to look over our Hunting Boots Review section to read our Reader submitted reviews of hunting boots.
