Tree Stand Locator LightsTree Stands- Since I was a kid the combination of nerves and excitement on the first day of buck season is always enough for me to wander around in the dark looking for my tree stand. My only saving grace has been snow which helps me follow the tracks of the previous day. This year knowing there wasn’t any snow in sight I decided to install a locator light on my tree stand. If you aren’t familiar with locator lights for tree stands here’s how they work in a nutshell. You attach this lighting unit to your stand and then as you approach the next morning you simply hit a remote which is similar but smaller than your car remote and the light is activated. There are different versions of these lights for locating tree stands. The one I purchased was from All About Game Inc. After taking much ribbing from the other guys at camp one of which said he would carry me to my stand for the twelve or so dollars I paid for the light I finally had a chance to use it opening morning. I was disappointed to find the light acted more of a beacon than an actual light itself. The light is supposed to be activated by the remote with 100 yards. It was probably in the twenty yard range when I actually saw the light and only then for a split second before the light was hidden from trees. If you think about it if it’s a tree stand chances are there will be a lot of trees in the way of you and the stand meaning any tree stand light should project a good deal of light. I will say the All About Game Tree Stand Light performed as designed. I would recommend going with one of the larger lights for tree stands on the market. The one from Cabela’s not only projects a beam of light but has a double duty of helping you see to get into your tree stand safely by lighting the area up as well as locate it with a strong light being projected.
